Poseidon S-Hub: Simplified Connection of RS-485 Sensors
The HW-group Poseidon S-Hub is a compact splitter device designed to connect up to eight RS-485 sensors via RJ45 ports to devices from the Poseidon family, such as the Poseidon2 4002.
The Sensor Hub enables easy star topology wiring and supports cascading multiple S-Hubs to expand the number of sensors in larger installations. With its robust construction and reliable RS-485 bus technology, the S-Hub is ideal for server room monitoring and remote monitoring in industrial facilities and building management systems.
Power can be supplied directly from the Poseidon unit or from an external power supply (recommended for more than three sensors), making installation flexible and straightforward.
Main Features of the Poseidon S-Hub
The Poseidon S-Hub simplifies the connection of RS-485 sensors and offers numerous advantages for monitoring systems. Here is an overview of the key features:
- Connection of up to 8 sensors: Supports up to eight RS-485 sensors via RJ45 ports for flexible sensor expansion.
- RS-485 bus: Reliable data transmission even over long distances (up to 1000 m) in industrial environments.
- Star topology: Allows the use of standard TP cables (CAT5) in a star topology, simplifying wiring in larger installations.
- Cascading: Multiple S-Hubs can be connected in series to increase the number of sensors.
- Simple power supply: Power supply via the Poseidon unit or optional external power supply (9–30 V DC, recommended from three sensors, e.g., HWg-600528).
- Robust design: Compact dimensions (approx. 100 x 70 x 25 mm) and reliable construction for industrial use.
- LED indicator: Indicates power status (green for RS-485 bus, red for external power supply).
Application Areas of the Poseidon S-Hub
The Poseidon S-Hub is versatile and suitable for scenarios where multiple sensors need to be connected to a Poseidon system. Typical application areas include:
- Server rooms and data centers: Connection of sensors such as temperature, humidity, or smoke detectors for server room monitoring.
- Industrial facilities: Monitoring of environmental parameters or dry contacts in production halls or technical areas.
- Building management: Integration of sensors for monitoring access points, air conditioning, or energy consumption.
- Remote monitoring: Supports integration with Poseidon2 devices for real-time notifications via email, SMS, or SNMP trap.
- Security detectors: Connection of detectors such as smoke, water, or motion sensors for a comprehensive security system.
Why the Poseidon S-Hub is the Right Choice
The Poseidon S-Hub offers an efficient solution for expanding monitoring systems with RS-485 sensors. Compared to other sensor hubs, it stands out for its simple star topology wiring, cascading capability, and compatibility with the Poseidon family.
The use of standard RJ45 ports and TP cables reduces installation effort, while reliable RS-485 technology ensures stable data transmission even over long distances. Flexible power supply and compact design make the S-Hub ideal for server rooms, industrial facilities, and building management systems.

- Weight: Approx. 150 g
- Compatibility: Poseidon2 4002, Poseidon 1250, Poseidon 2250 and other Poseidon devices with RS-485 interface
Integration with HW-group Products
The Poseidon S-Hub is optimally matched to HW-group devices such as Poseidon2 4002, Poseidon 1250, or Poseidon 2250. By connecting via the RS-485 bus, sensors for temperature, humidity, smoke, or dry contacts can be integrated into a comprehensive security system. Alarms are reported in real time via LAN, GSM, SNMP, or Modbus/TCP. The free HWg-PDMS software enables analysis and export of sensor data to Excel for detailed reports. Connection to the SensDesk portal offers additional visualization options via Android or iOS apps.
Installation and Setup
Installation of the Poseidon S-Hub is straightforward. The S-Hub is connected to the Poseidon unit via an RJ45 cable, and up to eight RS-485 sensors are connected to the RJ45 ports (1–8). Sensors must be connected in ascending order with no empty ports, with the last sensor set to the "LAST" jumper (all others to "MIDDLE").
For more than three sensors or longer cable runs, an external power supply (e.g., HWg-600528) is recommended. The LED indicator shows the power status. Sensor configuration is done via the web interface of the Poseidon unit or the HWg-PDMS software.
The HW-group Poseidon S-Hub is the ideal solution for simple and reliable connection of RS-485 sensors in server rooms, industrial facilities, and building management systems. With its star topology, cascading capability, and seamless Poseidon2 integration, it offers flexible expansion for remote monitoring. Optimize your server room monitoring with the Poseidon S-Hub.
