The NB-WLD from HW group is an advanced IoT monitoring device specifically designed for water leak detection. With a connection for a WLD sensor cable (Type A), it detects water along the entire length of the sensor cable, enabling early warning to prevent costly infrastructure damage.
Thanks to Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) connectivity and an internal battery with up to three years of lifetime, the NB-WLD is ideal for use in remote or critical environments such as data centers, server rooms, or building management systems.
Fast and Precise Water Detection
The NB-WLD detects even a few drops of water, ethylene glycol, or other conductive liquids along the WLD sensor cable (up to 60 m total length, including non-sensitive extension cables). This rapid detection protects against expensive damages, e.g., from leaking pipes, condensation under air conditioners, or liquid ingress from adjacent rooms. The sensor cable is reusable, can be cleaned and dried, which reduces maintenance costs.
Narrowband IoT for Reliable Connectivity
With NB-IoT technology, the NB-WLD offers energy-efficient and secure data transmission, ideal for locations without LAN or WiFi infrastructure. By default, the device includes an NB-IoT SIM card with three years of prepaid service from Vodafone, enabling worldwide use in most countries (Note: LTE SIM cards are not compatible).
For large projects, your own NB-IoT SIM cards can be used to send data to a self-hosted SensDesk instance. Remote management and configuration are performed via the SensDesk portal or the free HWg-Cloud.
Flexible Power Supply and Robust Design
The NB-WLD is powered by an internal, non-rechargeable Lithium-MnO2 battery (1500 mAh, CR123A) with up to three years of lifetime, depending on usage and environmental conditions. Alternatively, an external 5V power supply can be used. The compact metal housing (67 x 31 x 69 mm, 151 g) with IP40 protection is suitable for desktop, wall, or DIN rail mounting and withstands demanding environments (-10 °C to 70 °C, 0–100% RH).
Integration into the HWg Ecosystem
The NB-WLD is part of the HWg monitoring ecosystem and must be connected to a SensDesk technology portal to operate. The free HWg-Cloud (up to 20 devices) offers simple email notifications and basic remote management, while the paid SensDesk portal (www.SensDesk.com) provides advanced features such as SMS/voice calls, charts, PDF reports, and open API for integration into third-party systems (e.g., SCADA). Devices can be migrated between different SensDesk portals at any time.
Easy Installation and Alerting
Installation is straightforward: after connecting the sensor cable and power supply, the device is configured via the SensDesk portal using the device hash. Alarms are sent via email or HWg-Push to up to five recipients; SMS notifications are possible with an optional HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway.
The system also reports defective or disconnected sensor cables to ensure reliability. Data can be accessed via XML or SNMP, making integration into existing monitoring systems easy.
