The 4-Zone Water Leak Detector with LAN, WiFi and PoE
The HW group WLD2 is a water leak detector with Ethernet and WiFi connectivity that monitors up to four sensing cables. Unlike a point liquid sensor, the system detects liquid at any point along the entire cable length. Even the smallest amounts, such as condensation from air-conditioning pipes or the first drops from a leaking pipe, trigger an alarm before costly damage occurs.
Reliably monitored: In addition to water, the WLD2 also detects disconnected or damaged sensing cables and reports them. This way you always know whether monitoring is actually working. Each of the four zones is reported separately, making it easier to locate the leak.
Thanks to WiFi, the WLD2 can also be installed in hard-to-reach or remote locations; for critical applications a wired Ethernet connection is also available. Power is supplied either via Power-over-Ethernet or an external 5 V adapter. Alarms are sent by email, SNMP trap or via the SensDesk portal; with an external SMS gateway from HW group also by SMS or phone call.

Two variants to choose from
The WLD2 is available in two versions. Both support Ethernet, WiFi, PoE, HTTPS and TLS-SMTP.
Set 1: Base unit
Only the WLD2 water leak detection device with 4 zone inputs for sensing cable A or B (max. 4 × 185 m). A portal is required for operation: HWg-cloud.com (standard, free) or any SensDesk Technology portal.
Set 2: Complete package
Retail package with WLD2, WLD sensing cable A (2 m) and WLD connecting cable AB (2 m) plus power adapter – a water leak early-warning system with Ethernet and WiFi connectivity. Supports the web portals HWg-cloud.com (free) and SensDesk Technology.
Please note: The desired variant must be selected above the shopping cart before purchasing. Only with the selected option (Set 1 or Set 2) can the WLD2 be added to the cart.
How the WLD2 system is structured
The water leak detection system consists of the WLD2 device, a sensing cable that detects water along its entire length, and connecting and extension cables as needed. Each zone is built as a separate cable chain.
WLD2 device in metal housing
The evaluation unit is housed in a compact metal enclosure and can easily be mounted on a wall or in a 19-inch rack.
Four zone inputs (WLD1 to WLD4)
The four sensing cables are connected via terminal blocks. Each input forms its own zone and reports its status separately.
Ethernet port (RJ45)
The RJ45 port (10/100BASE-T) provides the wired network connection and can also power the device via PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 0).
Socket for external power supply
As an alternative to PoE, the device is powered via a 5 V adapter with a barrel connector.
WiFi module
For wireless connectivity the device supports WiFi in the 2.4 GHz band (802.11 b/g/n) with the security methods WEP, WPA, WPA2 PSK, WPA2 TSK and WPS.
Connecting cable AB (non-sensing)
The 2 m connecting cable links the zone input to the sensing cable. It is fitted with a green terminal block and carries the terminator of the cable chain.
WLD sensing cable (type A or B)
The actual sensing element: it detects water, ethylene glycol and other conductive liquids along its entire length and is routed along pipes, walls, gutters or drip trays.
Extension cable AB (non-sensing)
The 5 m extension cable bridges the distance to the sensing area. Per zone up to 85 m of sensing cable plus up to 100 m of connecting cable is possible, i.e. a maximum of 185 m in total.
Three states per zone
Each zone reports its current status separately, so it is immediately clear whether a leak is present or the monitoring itself is impaired.
OK
No leak detected; the sensing cable is connected and functional.
Flooded
Liquid has been detected on the sensing cable – a water leak is present.
Sensing cable fault
The sensing cable is damaged or disconnected; the zone is no longer reliably monitored.
Practical example: In a server room, one sensing cable runs under the raised floor, one along the air-conditioning pipes and one in the drip trays. If only the zone under the air-conditioning units reports “Flooded”, the leak location is immediately narrowed down.
Alarms where they are needed
When a leak or cable fault is detected, the WLD2 immediately sends notifications via multiple channels.
- Email to up to four recipients, repeated if required
- SNMP trap to up to four destinations for monitoring systems
- Notification to the SensDesk Cloud with long-term data and charts
- SMS or phone call to up to four numbers via an external SMS gateway (e.g. SMS-GW3)
- A different phone number can be alerted per zone
- Box-2-Box mode: switch a relay output on a Poseidon2 or Damocles2 over the network, e.g. for a siren
- Virtual output for forwarding the alarm status
- Alarm reminder as long as the condition persists
Area instead of point: the sensing cable
A sensing cable detects liquid along its entire length, whereas a simple liquid sensor only reacts at a single point. The cable solution costs more but responds much faster to water in the room.
- Detection of water, ethylene glycol and other conductive liquids
- No bend radius: the cable can be laid in any way
- No twist protection required: it may be twisted like any other electrical cable
- Point pressure does not impair detection
- Reusable: clean, dry and reinstall
- Two types (A and B) and cable lengths from 2 m to 50 m, extendable
Connection to portal and monitoring systems
The WLD2 works with the HW group ecosystem of sensors, devices and SensDesk portal and can equally be integrated into existing monitoring environments.
SensDesk portal
Central device management, charts, PDF reports and alarms by email, SMS or voice call via the HWg-Push protocol.
HWg-cloud.com
Portal from HW group with a limited free service. SensDesk.com is a paid service.
SNMP
SNMP v1 fully supported, partially also v2, plus SNMP traps for common monitoring systems.
Web interface
Simple setup in the browser; IP configuration automatically possible via DHCP.
On the network side the device supports, among other things, HTTP, HTTPS, SNTP, SMTP with TLS, XML and netGSM for connecting the SMS gateway. HW group also offers SensDesk Mobile as an Android app for displaying the sensors on a smartphone, and the SensDesk portal provides an open API as well as remote management of the devices.
Commissioning in a few steps
Thanks to the web interface and DHCP, setup is quick.
