The simple LAN and WiFi thermometer for remote monitoring
The HW group STE2 LITE is an easy-to-use LAN and WiFi thermometer for temperature measurement at remote locations. As soon as the temperature leaves the defined range, an e-mail notification is sent. With an external SMS gateway (SMS-GW3 LTE) or via a portal service, the device can additionally alarm by SMS or voice call.
Although there is only a single RJ11 connector, up to 4 measured values from external sensors can be recorded (e.g. humidity, CO₂, VOC, 4–20 mA and others). Multiple RJ11 sensors can be daisy-chained, and a single physical sensor can provide several values (°C + %RH = 2 values). A 1 m temperature sensor and an international 5V plug-in power supply are already included in the scope of delivery.

The STE2 LITE measures values in real time, displays them in the browser or app and reports limit value exceedances.

How the STE2 LITE is built
The compact plastic housing measures approximately 68 x 63 x 32 mm (W x H x D), weighs about 64 g and is designed with IP40 protection class for desktop use in SoHo and IT environments. Operating temperature: −10°C to 60°C.

Ethernet connection with web server
An RJ45 port (10/100 Mbit) connects the device to the network; an integrated web server enables configuration directly via the browser (also via HTTPS).
Integrated WiFi
As an alternative to the cable, the device can be integrated into the network via the built-in WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) with internal antenna.
RJ11 sensor connector
One RJ11 port for 1-Wire and 1-Wire UNI sensors from HW group. A total of up to 4 measured values is possible; the supplied temperature sensor can be replaced by a temperature/humidity sensor with 3 m cable.
Power connection (5V)
Supply via a barrel jack (Ø 3.5 x 1.35 mm) with 5V DC; the matching power supply is included (power consumption approx. 250 mA).
Expandable with compatible RJ11 sensors
All 1-Wire and 1-Wire UNI sensors from HW group can be operated on the RJ11 connector. Multiple sensors can be connected in series via daisy-chain – the maximum is 4 measured values in total.

Notification when limit values are exceeded
As soon as a measured value (temperature, humidity, voltage …) leaves the defined min-max range, the STE2 LITE sends an alarm.
E-mail from the device
Sent directly from the STE2 LITE via a third-party SMTP server. Public webmail SMTP servers (e.g. gmail.com) are not recommended due to changing security requirements.
SMS and voice call via gateway
Via an external SMS gateway (SMS-GW3 or SMS-GW3 LTE) on the same LAN. One gateway can forward alarms from multiple devices – without a portal or software.
Portal alarms
E-mail from the portal (more reliable in the long term), device failure alarm (Device Invalid Alert), simple alarm escalation via e-mail as well as SMS and voice calls with paid portals.
Display in the app
The free HWg Monitor app displays all sensor values on one screen – also usable as a wall display.
From free cloud access to a professional solution
The STE2 LITE is a standalone device – connection to a portal is optional and can be added at any time.

Commissioning in a few minutes
Setup of the STE2 LITE is performed entirely via the web browser – even inexperienced users can easily put the device into operation.

Practical example: In a server room, the STE2 LITE monitors the room temperature with the supplied sensor. If the air conditioning fails and the temperature rises above the limit value, the device immediately sends an e-mail. If an SMS-GW3 LTE is additionally connected in the network or a portal is linked, the alarm is also sent by SMS or voice call.

Can the STE2 LITE alarm by SMS or call?
Yes, but not on its own: for SMS and voice alarms an external SMS gateway (SMS-GW3 or SMS-GW3 LTE) on the same LAN or a portal service is required. One gateway can forward alarms from multiple devices; a portal or additional software is not required for this.
Is a portal mandatory?
No. The STE2 LITE is a standalone device; the portal is only an option. For long-term reliable e-mail alarms, however, the manufacturer recommends the free HWg-cloud.com service, which also offers a device failure alarm (Device Invalid Alert).
How is the STE2 LITE powered?
The device is supplied with 5V DC via a barrel jack (Ø 3.5 x 1.35 mm). A matching international plug-in power supply is included in the scope of delivery.
What interfaces does the device offer for integration?
The STE2 LITE supports SNMP v1, XML over HTTP as well as HWg-Push for portal connection and can thus be integrated into third-party systems. HTTPS with customer certificate ensures a secure connection to the web interface.
