Professional SNMP thermometer for remote monitoring of environmental conditions
The HW group STE2 PLUS is a professional LAN and WiFi device for remote monitoring of sensors. External sensors with a total of up to 15 sensor values can be connected to the two RJ11 ports, and external detectors to 2 digital inputs (DI). For maximum security, the STE2 PLUS supports SNMPv3, HTTPS with custom certificates and IPv6.
As soon as a value is too high or too low (or e.g. a door is opened), an alarm is triggered – optionally by e-mail directly from the device (SMTP), as an SNMP trap or via the portal also by SMS, voice call and device failure alarm. Even without a portal, alarms can be sent via an external SMS gateway on the LAN. The sensor values are displayed in the device’s web interface, via API (SNMP or XML), in the portal or on a smartphone or tablet in the HWg Monitor app.
Up to 15 sensor values, 2 detectors and versatile connectivity in a compact device
The STE2 PLUS can be integrated into the network either via LAN (with PoE) or WiFi and combines classic sensor connections with professional IT interfaces.

Frequently asked questions
What is the HW group STE2 PLUS and what is it used for?
The STE2 PLUS is a professional LAN and WiFi remote monitoring unit for environmental conditions with up to 15 sensor values and 2 digital inputs. It is suitable for technical rooms, pharmaceutical and food storage, cooling and freezing units, building monitoring and many other applications.
What variants are available and what distinguishes them?
There are three variants: the “STE2 PLUS” in the retail package (including 3-metre temperature sensor IP67 and international power supply), the “STE2 PLUS plain unit” as a pure base unit, and the bundle “STE2 PLUS & SMS-GW3 LTE”, which additionally includes an LTE gateway for SMS and call alarms. The variant is selected before adding to the shopping cart.
How many sensors can be connected?
Sensors with a total of up to 15 sensor values can be connected to the two RJ11 ports; the sensors can be daisy-chained. A physical sensor can measure several values (e.g. temperature + humidity = 2 values). In addition, 2 digital inputs are available for dry-contact detectors.
How is the STE2 PLUS powered and connected?
Power supply is optionally via a 5V power supply (barrel jack Ø 3.5 x 1.35 mm) or via Power over Ethernet (PoE). Network connection is possible via LAN (RJ45, 10/100 Mbit) or WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n). An international power supply is included with the retail package and the bundle, but not with the base unit (plain unit).
How are SMS or voice call alarms sent?
The STE2 PLUS does not have its own mobile modem. SMS and voice call alarms are possible either via an external gateway (HWg-SMS-GW3 or SMS-GW3 LTE) on the same LAN – neither a portal nor additional software is required for this – or via a portal. One gateway can forward alarms from multiple devices on the same network.
Can the STE2 PLUS also be operated without a portal?
Yes. The device displays its values in the integrated web interface, provides them via SNMP or XML and sends e-mail alarms directly via a configured SMTP server as well as SNMP traps. For long-term reliable e-mail alarming, however, the manufacturer recommends sending via the portal (HWg-cloud.com can be used free of charge for this).
What are virtual digital outputs (VDO)?
The STE2 PLUS has no own relay outputs, but can switch external relays of other devices on the network via up to 8 virtual digital outputs (VDO) depending on the sensor value. This allows e.g. fans or signal devices to be controlled.
Does the device store measured values itself?
The STE2 PLUS has no internal logger. Historical data, graphs and reports are available via the portal (HWg-cloud.com or SensDesk); current values can be retrieved in the web interface, via SNMP/XML and in the HWg Monitor app.
What security features does the device offer?
The STE2 PLUS supports SNMP v1 and v3 including SNMP traps, HTTPS with custom certificates, TLS for SMTP and IPv6.
