The Vibration Detector for Intrusion and Shock Detection
The HW group Vibration detector SS14-v2 is a device for detecting impacts and vibrations. It protects frames and built-in components, windows and glass surfaces, boxes, or any other passage where intrusion attempts are to be detected through vibrations or strong impacts.
The alarm output is connected to a digital input (DI) of an HW group device. An LED indicates the alarm status directly on the detector, and a tamper contact additionally protects the housing.
Detect Impacts Before It Is Too Late
The SS14-v2 reports shocks on glass, wood, and walls and can be adjusted in sensitivity to the installation location.
Impact and Vibration Detection
Detects intrusion attempts through vibrations or strong impacts.
Adjustable Sensitivity
A trimmer on the circuit board: turning towards + increases the sensitivity.
LED Alarm Indicator
The alarm status is indicated by an LED.
Alarm Output
Max. 100 mA at 30 V DC, for connection to digital inputs (DI) of HW group devices.
Tamper Output
Mechanical contact with max. 200 mA at 24 V DC protects against opening of the cover.
RF Interference Immunity
RFI protection 30 V/m in the range from 20 MHz to 2000 MHz.
How the SS14-v2 Vibration Detector Is Constructed
The detector is housed in a compact ABS enclosure (77 x 36 x 20 mm) with protection class IP30 and is mounted on the wall. The electronics are located on a circuit board with screw terminals, trimmer, LED, and tamper switch.
Vibration Sensor
The component on the circuit board labeled “vibration” detects impacts and vibrations of the surface on which the detector is mounted.
Sensitivity Trimmer
The sensitivity to impacts is set with the trimmer. When turned towards + (clockwise), the sensitivity increases.
Alarm LED
The LED indicates the alarm status. After power-on, it flashes rapidly while calibration is running. In the event of an alarm, it lights for 2 seconds; a brief flash means: impact detected, but not strong enough for an alarm.
Screw Terminals
On the circuit board, the terminals ALARM (alarm output, NC), TAMPER (tamper output, NC), and the supply (+ / −, 9–15 V DC) are labeled. According to the manufacturer, the alarm output is an open-collector output with max. 100 mA at 30 V DC, a residual resistance of max. 0.5 Ω, and an alarm duration of 2 seconds.
Tamper Switch
The switch is an NC dry contact (mechanical, max. 200 mA at 24 V DC). It secures the cover against opening and tearing off: the tab is bent slightly upwards so that the cover closes securely, and the screw at the bottom of the cover is tightened (tear-off protection).
REED Contact
The REED contact on the circuit board is intended for an external magnet.
Mounting and Operating Conditions
The detector is mounted directly on the surface to be monitored.
- Mounting with screws or, for glass surfaces, with double-sided adhesive tape
- Opening the housing: insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the slot and press
- Operating temperature: −20 °C to +50 °C, 0–95 % RH
- Storage temperature: −20 °C to +50 °C, 0–95 % RH
- Supply: 9–15 V DC (nominal 13.8 V DC)
- Current consumption: 9 mA in standby, max. 21 mA at 13.8 V DC
- Protection class IP30 for industrial and SoHo environments
- CE declaration of conformity available from the manufacturer
Safety note: Installation must be carried out properly by specialized personnel. The manufacturer accepts no liability if the product is manipulated by unauthorized persons.
Check Sensitivity at the Installation Site
After mounting, the detector is calibrated and adjusted with an impact test.
- After power-on, wait a few seconds until calibration is complete (LED flashes rapidly)
- Perform an impact test on the surface at the desired distance
- The LED must light for 2 seconds (alarm)
- If no alarm occurs, turn the trimmer towards + (clockwise)
- Brief flash of the LED: the impact was detected but was too weak for an alarm
- Impact distance for glass: 1 to 6 m
- Impact distance for wood: 2 to 4 m
- Impact distance for walls: 0 to 1 m
Connection to HW group Devices
The alarm output is connected to a digital input (DI) of an HW group device. The detector is galvanically isolated and provides a value.
- Perseus Industrial 300, 310, and 315
- Perseus Energy 242 and 285
- Perseus Monitoring 140, 145, 150, and 155
- STE2 PLUS SMS-GW
Commissioning in a Few Steps
- Mount the detector with screws (for glass with double-sided adhesive tape) on the surface to be monitored
- Bend the tamper tab slightly upwards, close the cover, and tighten the screw at the bottom of the cover
- Connect the supply of 9–15 V DC to the terminals + and −
- Connect the alarm output (ALARM) to a digital input (DI) of the HW group device
- Optional: connect the tamper output (TAMPER)
- Wait a few seconds for calibration (LED flashes rapidly)
- Perform an impact test and increase the sensitivity with the trimmer if necessary

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SS14-v2 vibration detector and what is it used for?
The HW group Vibration detector SS14-v2 detects impacts and vibrations. It protects frames, windows, glass surfaces, boxes, and other passages where intrusion attempts through vibrations or strong impacts are to be reported.
Are there options or variants?
No, the SS14-v2 vibration detector is offered without variants.
From what distance does the detector detect impacts?
This depends on the material: for glass from 1 to 6 m, for wood from 2 to 4 m, and for walls from 0 to 1 m distance from the sensor.
How do I set the sensitivity?
After power-on and calibration, perform an impact test at the desired distance. If the LED does not light for 2 seconds, turn the trimmer towards + (clockwise). A brief flash means that the impact was detected but was not strong enough.
How do I connect the detector to a monitoring device?
The alarm output (max. 100 mA at 30 V DC) is connected to a digital input (DI) of an HW group device. The detector is supplied with 9–15 V DC.
How does the tamper protection work?
The tamper switch is an NC dry contact that reports the opening of the cover. For a secure closure, the tab is bent slightly upwards and the screw at the bottom of the cover is tightened (tear-off protection).
How do I open the housing?
Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the slot on the housing and press. Installation should be carried out by specialized personnel.
