Water leak detection along the entire cable length
The HW group WLD sensing cable A (Water Detection Chain Type A) is a sensor for detecting conductive liquids. Liquid is detected along the entire length of the cable, so that an extended area can be monitored at once. The cable can be laid under raised floors in data centers, run along walls, or wrapped around pipes. Even the smallest amounts of conductive liquid such as water or ethylene glycol can trigger an alarm.
The sensing cable is the central component of the HW group WLD system (Water Leak Detection) and requires a WLD device or a WLD Relay for operation. It is part of the HWg monitoring ecosystem of sensors, devices, and the SensDesk Technology portal for reliable alarms, graphs, PDF reports, an open API, and remote device management.
Robust, flexible, and easy to install
Type A sensing cable can be handled like a normal electrical cable without impairing its function.
No bend radius
The cable is not subject to any bend radius limitation. It can even be knotted and will continue to function perfectly.
No pressure problem
Point pressure within the normal range does not affect detection. The cable can be walked on and even run under a door threshold without false alarms.
No twisting problem
The cable can be twisted like any other electrical cable.
Early warning
Even a few drops of liquid are detected, so that costly damage to infrastructure can be avoided.
No false alarms
Long-term stable detection: movements of surrounding cables do not trigger false alarms; the cable can even be laid next to other cables at a later time.
Reusable
A flooded cable can be cleaned, dried, and reused.
Individually selectable: 6 sets in different lengths
The sensing cable is available in lengths of 2 m, 10 m, and 50 m, either as a pure sensing cable or as a 2-cable package with connection cable. Special lengths are available on request.
Please note: The sets are selected in the selection field "Select WLD-SENxx variant" above the add-to-cart button. Sets 1 to 3 contain no connection cable. Sets 4 to 6 additionally include a WLD-A connection cable (2 m) and can be connected directly to any WLD zone input terminal (green terminal).
Set 1: Sensing cable 2 m
WLD sensing cable 2 m (Water Leak Detection, Type A). Can be used to extend the sensing cable within a zone. No connection cable included.
Set 2: Sensing cable 10 m
WLD sensing cable 10 m (Water Leak Detection, Type A). Can be used to extend the sensing cable within a zone. No connection cable included.
Set 3: Sensing cable 50 m

Set 4: 2-cable package, 4 m
WLD sensing cable A (2 m) + WLD-A connection cable (2 m) = total length 4 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input terminal (green terminal).
Set 5: 2-cable package, 12 m
WLD sensing cable A (10 m) + WLD-A connection cable (2 m) = total length 12 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input terminal (green terminal).
Set 6: 2-cable package, 52 m
WLD sensing cable A (50 m) + WLD-A connection cable (2 m) = total length 52 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input terminal strip (green terminal strip).
How the WLD system is structured
A WLD zone consists of several components that can be combined flexibly. Unmonitored sections can be bridged with extension cable, which is particularly economical.
WLD device or WLD Relay
The device with WLD zone input evaluates the sensing cable. Without a WLD device or WLD Relay, the sensing cable will not work.
Connection cable AB (2 m)
The connection cable connects the WLD device via a green terminal strip to the sensing cable. The terminating resistor (terminator) is included in the connection cable.
WLD sensing cable A (2 m / 10 m / 50 m)
The actual sensor: It detects conductive liquid along the entire length. The length of the sensing cable in a zone is a maximum of 85 m.
Extension cable AB (5 m)
The non-sensitive extension cable bridges areas where no water is expected. This allows the zone to be extended to a total of up to 185 m per zone (60 m for NB-WLD).
Terminator at the end of the zone
A terminator is required at the end of the zone. It is included in the connection cable.
For use with WLD devices and Perseus
The maximum length of a WLD zone (60 m or 185 m) is determined by the device used with WLD zone input.
| Device | Number of zones | Max. length per zone |
|---|---|---|
| WLD2 (LAN & WiFi, Standalone Monitoring) | 4 | 185 m |
| SD-WLD (LAN & WiFi, IoT Monitoring, Portal required) | 1 | 185 m |
| NB-WLD (NB-IoT, IoT Monitoring, Portal required) | 1 | 60 m |
| Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI (1W-UNI RJ11 / Relay output) | 1 | 185 m |
In addition, the sensing cable is intended for use with Perseus Monitoring 140–155 and can be integrated into existing systems such as Poseidon2, Damocles2, or STE2.
Clear status messages
The sensing cable provides three clear states to the connected device.
0 = OK
The monitored area is dry; no liquid has been detected.
1 = Flooded
Conductive liquid has been detected on the sensing cable; the alarm is triggered.
2 = Cable interrupted
A mechanically disconnected WLD sensing cable is also indicated.
Depending on the device, alarms can be forwarded by email, SNMP trap, or via other monitoring systems.

Sensing cable or point flood detector?
Water leak detection with a sensing cable is more expensive than simple point water detection, but reacts significantly faster to water in the room.
- Area monitoring along the entire cable length instead of just at one point
- Early alarm at the first drops limits damage to IT and infrastructure
- Recommended for IT, data centers, technology, the medical sector, and wherever water damage would be very expensive
- Point flood detectors can be used as a supplement
Practical application examples
- Data centers and server rooms
- Storage rooms and technical sites
- Wooden constructions
- Security systems
- Air conditioning systems and pipe systems
- Archives, museums, and hotels
- Medical laboratories and industrial plants
- Cold rooms and damp basements
Commissioning in a few steps
Installation requires no special training.
- Select the set and cable length suitable for the area to be monitored (sets 4 to 6 already include the connection cable)
- Lay the sensing cable under the floor, on the wall, or around pipes and fasten it with adhesive tape or clips
- If necessary, bridge unmonitored sections with extension cable (up to 185 m per zone)

Frequently asked questions
What is the HW group WLD sensing cable A and what is it used for?
The WLD sensing cable A is a sensing cable for detecting conductive liquids such as water or ethylene glycol. It detects liquid along the entire cable length and is used, for example, in data centers, server rooms, archives, or industrial plants.
Does the cable work without an additional device?
No. The sensing cable requires a WLD device or a WLD Relay, for example WLD2, SD-WLD, NB-WLD, or Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI.
What is the difference between sets 1 to 6?
Sets 1 to 3 contain only the sensing cable (2 m, 10 m, or 50 m) without connection cable and are also suitable for extension within a zone. Sets 4 to 6 are 2-cable packages consisting of sensing cable (2 m, 10 m, or 50 m) and WLD-A connection cable (2 m) with a total length of 4 m, 12 m, or 52 m respectively.
How long may a WLD zone be?
The sensing cable may be a maximum of 85 m long in a zone. With non-sensitive extension cable, up to 185 m per zone is possible, or up to 60 m for NB-WLD. The limit is determined by the device used with WLD zone input.
Can the cable be reused after a water leak?
Yes. A flooded cable can be cleaned, dried, and reused.
Does the cable trigger false alarms if it is bent or walked on?
No. Bending, knotting, twisting, and point pressure do not affect detection, nor do movements of adjacent cables.
Is an interrupted cable detected?
Yes. In addition to the states OK (0) and Flooded (1), the system also reports state 2 if the sensing cable is disconnected or mechanically interrupted.
