Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI - Water Sensor
The WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor from HW group is a state-of-the-art water leak detection sensor with 2D water detection, developed to reliably detect water and other conductive liquids such as ethylene glycol along the entire length of a sensing cable. This device is ideal for use in sensitive environments such as server rooms, data centers, industrial facilities, archives, or museums, where water leaks can cause significant damage. By combining a relay output (NO/NC) and a 1-Wire UNI interface, the sensor offers both standalone and networked operation, making it a versatile solution for monitoring.
Main Functions and Features
Water Leak Detection Along the Sensing Cable
- The sensor detects water or other conductive liquids along the entire length of a WLD sensing cable Type A. Even a few drops trigger an alarm to prevent early damage such as short circuits or equipment failures.
- It also reports cable interruptions or damage, increasing operational safety.
- States: The sensor reports three states:
- OK: No leak, cable intact.
- Flooded: Liquid detected.
- Cable disconnected: Sensing cable interrupted or damaged.
Sensing Cable
- Length: Available from 0.4 m to 85 m, extendable with a non-sensitive extension cable up to 185 m.
- Features:
- Reusable: After a leak, the sensing cable can be cleaned, dried, and reused.
- Flexible: No restrictions due to bending radius, twisting, or pressure—ideal for installations under raised floors, along pipes, or on walls.
- Fabric sheath: Promotes absorption of liquids for fast detection.
- Installation: The sensing cable can be attached to floors, walls, or pipes using clips, adhesive tape, or other mounting methods.
Two Operating Modes
- Standalone Operation:
- Requires an external 12V power supply (barrel connector or terminal block).
- Uses the relay output (NO/NC, max. 1A / 30V) for direct control of alarm systems, sirens, or other devices.
- 1-Wire UNI Operation:
- Connection via the 1-Wire UNI interface (RJ11 connector) with HW group devices such as Poseidon2, Ares, STE2, Damocles, or Perseus.
- Power supply via the 1-Wire bus, no separate power supply required.
- Automatic recognition by a unique sensor ID.
Relay Output (NO/NC)
- Switches when liquid or cable interruption is detected (NO = normally open, NC = normally closed, max. 1A / 30V).
- Enables direct control of external devices such as alarm systems, pumps, or valves.
Connectivity and Integration
- 1-Wire UNI interface: Enables integration into the SensDesk Technology Portal (HWg-Cloud or SensDesk) for long-term monitoring, reports, graphs, and remote management.
- Alerting: When connected to compatible devices, the sensor supports:
- SNMP trap for network monitoring systems
- SMS or call via an external SMS gateway (e.g., HWg-SMS-GW3)
- SensDesk portal for cloud-based monitoring
- Box-2-Box mode: Communication with other HW group devices for controlling relay outputs (e.g., Poseidon2 or Damocles2).
- Supports SNMP, HTTPS, XML, and an open API for third-party software.
Physical Properties
- Enclosure: Compact plastic housing with protection class IP33, suitable for indoor use.
- Mounting: On horizontal or vertical surfaces (e.g., floor, wall, under raised floors).
- Dimensions: 65 × 80 × 30 mm.
- Weight: Approx. 122 g (without cable).
- Operating temperature: -10 °C to +60 °C.
- Power supply: 12V DC / 0.1A (external) or via 1-Wire UNI bus.
Scope of Delivery (see package offers below)
- The sensor is supplied without a sensing cable (WLD sensing cable Type A must be ordered separately).
- Optionally available as HWg-WLD Relay Set, including 2 m sensing cable, 2 m connection cable, 12V power supply, and J-clips for mounting.
Applications
The WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor is ideal for environments where water leaks can cause significant damage, such as:
- Server rooms and data centers: Protection against leaks under raised floors or near air conditioning units.
- Industrial facilities: Detection of leaks in cooling systems (e.g., ethylene glycol) or water pipes.
- Building infrastructure: Monitoring of basements, archives, or museums.
- Hotels and vacation homes: Protection against leaks in heating or water systems.
- Base Transceiver Stations (BTS): Protection of telecommunications equipment from water damage.
Advantages over Spot Detectors
Compared to spot detectors such as the Flood detector 1W-UNI, the WLD Relay 1W-UNI offers the following advantages:
- Area monitoring: Detects liquids along the entire cable length (up to 185 m), not just at one point.
- Flexibility: Can be used as a standalone device (with relay output) or integrated into a monitoring system (via 1-Wire UNI).
- Reusability: The sensing cable can be cleaned and reused after a leak.
- Reliability: Detects cable interruptions and minimizes false alarms.
- Expandability: Supports long cable runs and integration into complex monitoring systems.
Integration into the HW group Ecosystem
The sensor is part of the HW group monitoring ecosystem, which offers comprehensive monitoring solutions:
- SensDesk Technology Portal: Long-term monitoring, data logging, reports, graphs, and remote management via HWg-Cloud or SensDesk.
- HWg-PDMS: Software for data logging and export to MS Excel.
- HWg-Trigger: Software for advanced alert logic (e.g., SMS via external GSM modem).
- Compatibility: Seamless integration with Poseidon2, Ares, STE2, Damocles, or Perseus.
- Third-party software: Supports SNMP, XML, and an open API (C++, PHP, Java, etc.).
The WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor is a reliable and flexible solution for water leak detection in critical environments. The combination of 2D water detection, a relay output for local alarms, and the 1-Wire UNI interface for network monitoring makes it ideal for both standalone and networked applications.
With its reusability, flexible installation, and support for long cable runs, it is especially suitable for server rooms, industrial facilities, archives, or other sensitive areas. Compared to spot detectors such as the Flood detector 1W-UNI, it offers a larger monitoring area and more integration options, making it the preferred choice for comprehensive water leak detection.
