The watchdog for your network: automatic reboot on failure
The HW group IP WatchDog2 Lite monitors the functionality of up to 10 network devices and can automatically reboot up to two of them in the event of a failure. It checks the connected devices, for example, via PING, and if no response is received, it briefly interrupts their power supply, switches them off and on again, or notifies the operator. The device works completely autonomously, without the need for a server or software on a PC.
No technician required on site: The IP WatchDog2 Lite replaces the person who would otherwise have to travel kilometers or hours to a remote location just to switch a power switch off and on again. Thanks to the IP WatchDog, the frozen device is restarted without human intervention; often, the end user does not even notice that something did not work.
The second device generation adds SNMP and SMS sending and can be connected to the online portal [www.SensDesk.com](https://www.SensDesk.com).

Via an external HWg-SMS-GW, the device sends SMS messages and can additionally trigger a call that reaches the recipient of an alarm message.
Internal logger
Stores up to 200 events; with the HWg-PDMS software, the data can be exported to MS Excel.
How the IP WatchDog2 Lite is constructed
The IP WatchDog2 Lite is a compact metal enclosure for use in server rooms, control cabinets, or wall mounting.
Metal enclosure with status indicators
On the top, LEDs for Power, Status, Alarms, as well as for Channel 1 and Channel 2 indicate the current operating state of the device and the two channels.
Ethernet connection (RJ45)
Via the RJ45 port (100 Mbit/s), the IP WatchDog2 Lite connects to the local network and thereby reaches the monitored devices and the portal.
Terminal block for power supply
A green terminal block accepts the external voltage supply from 9 to 30 V.
Two relay outputs
Two physical relay outputs (Channel 1 and Channel 2) briefly interrupt the power supply to the connected devices when a failure is detected, thus restarting them.
Internal web server and logger
Inside run the web server for configuration and the data logger for up to 200 events.
Mounting
The enclosure can be mounted freestanding, in a 19-inch rack, or on a DIN rail.
4 + 1 methods for failure detection
A separate detection method can be selected for each of the 12 channels.
- Outgoing PING: The IP WatchDog2 regularly sends PING requests to the monitored device
- Incoming PING: The IP WatchDog2 waits for a PING signal from the monitored device (heartbeat)
- Web page request (web client): Checks whether a defined web page on the external device is reachable
- Web page (web server): Waits for a request from the external device to its own internal web page (heartbeat)
- Manual reboot: An employee can manually reboot the channel (output)

A single IP WatchDog2 Lite provides 12 channels for failure detection, even though only two devices can be directly rebooted.

Windows software for data acquisition (HWg-PDMS) or for alarming in the event of a failed device and for starting applications (HWg-Trigger).
Without a portal, the device independently alarms via SNMP trap, via e-mail through an SMTP server, or via SMS and voice call through an HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway on the same network.

How do I find out about an alarm?
The IP WatchDog2 Lite can alarm via SNMP trap, via e-mail through an SMTP server, or via SMS and voice call through an external HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway. Via a connected portal, additional e-mail, SMS, and voice call alarms from the portal are possible.
Can I also trigger the reboot manually?
Yes. Via the password-protected web interface, each output can also be manually rebooted, independent of automatic detection.
