Functionality and Application Areas
The IP WatchDog2 Lite continuously monitors the availability of network devices via LAN and reliably detects failures. As soon as a device no longer responds to requests, the system can automatically restart up to two physical devices via two relay outputs (AC 50V/0.5A, DC 30V/1A).
This is done either by a short power interruption or by a reset signal, thus avoiding costly manual interventions on site. Alternatively, a manual restart is possible via the password-protected web interface.
The device offers five methods for detecting device failures:
- Outgoing PING: Regular PING requests to monitored devices.
- Incoming PING: Waiting for PING signals from the device (heartbeat).
- Web page request (Web Client): Checking the availability of a defined web page.
- Web server request: Waiting for requests to the internal web page of the IP WatchDog2 Lite.
- Manual restart: Direct control by a user.
This versatility makes the IP WatchDog2 Lite an indispensable tool for numerous applications, including:
- Activation of backup internet connections in case the primary connection fails.
- Restarting unresponsive devices such as IP cameras, routers, or WiFi access points.

Technical Features and Integration
The IP WatchDog2 Lite has 12 monitoring channels, two of which can directly restart devices via physical relay outputs. The remaining channels can control virtual outputs on external devices such as Poseidon2 or Damocles2. Configuration is intuitive via an integrated web server, allowing easy adjustment of monitoring intervals, alarm conditions, and notifications.
Several options are available for alerting:
- SNMP Trap: For integration into network management systems.
- Email notifications: Via an SMTP server or the SensDesk portal.
- SMS and call: With an external HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway in the same LAN.
An internal data logger stores up to 200 events, which can be exported to Excel using the HWg-PDMS software. Support for protocols such as SNMP, XML, and HWg-Push as well as compatibility with HWg-Trigger software and the SensDesk portal make the IP WatchDog2 Lite a flexible solution for professional monitoring tasks.
Robust Design and Easy Installation
With its compact dimensions of 100 x 94 x 25 mm and a robust metal housing, the IP WatchDog2 Lite is designed for use in demanding environments. It operates reliably in a temperature range from -30°C to +85°C, making it suitable for outdoor or industrial environments.
Installation is flexible: the device can be mounted on a wall, in a 19-inch rack, or on a DIN rail. Power is supplied by an external power supply with 9–30 V DC, enabling easy integration into existing infrastructures.

Integration with Temperature Monitoring
Although the IP WatchDog2 Lite is primarily designed for network monitoring, it can also be used for temperature monitoring in combination with external sensors. By connecting compatible HW group sensors, such as indoor or outdoor temperature sensors, environmental conditions in server rooms or industrial facilities can be monitored. Alarms for temperature deviations are sent via the same channels (email, SMS, SNMP) as for network failures, enabling holistic monitoring.
