The HW group IP WatchDog2 Industrial detects the "freezing" or failure of a LAN device. It monitors the device either via IP (PING/WEB) or via a serial RS-232 interface. In the event of a failure, it restarts the device without operator intervention. It can monitor up to 10 devices, which it can restart or for which it can switch on a warning light.
The IP WatchDog2 periodically detects the functionality of a device by sending or receiving an "I am still alive" signal via IP or RS-232. The function detection is freely configurable by the user. New functions include 8 virtual inputs, SNMP, SMS sending, and the ability to connect the device to the online portal [www.SensDesk.com](https://www.SensDesk.com).
No technician required on site: The IP WatchDog2 Industrial replaces the person who would otherwise have to travel kilometers or hours to a remote location just to switch a power switch off and on again. Often, the end user does not even notice that something did not work.
Two versions to choose from
The IP WatchDog2 Industrial is available as a standalone device or as a complete package with a power supply.

The IP WatchDog2 Industrial combines failure detection, reboot, and alarm notification in a robust device for industrial use.

Can restart up to two connected devices directly via 230V/16A relays (NO/NC).
RS-232 input
In addition to IP, functionality can also be monitored via a serial RS-232 interface, for example for machines.

Signals a detected failure additionally via an internal audible output.
SMS + Ring
Via an external HWg-SMS-GW, the device sends SMS messages and can additionally trigger a call that reaches the recipient of an alarm message.
How the IP WatchDog2 Industrial is constructed
The enclosure is designed for mounting in a control cabinet or on a DIN rail.
Enclosure with status indicators
On the top, LEDs for Power, Status, Alarms, as well as for Channel 1 and Channel 2 indicate the current operating state of the device and the two channels.
RS-232 connection (DB9)
On the front is a serial DB9 connector, via which the functionality of connected machines is checked based on an expected character string.
Ethernet connection
Via the 100 Mbit/s Ethernet port, the IP WatchDog2 Industrial connects to the local network and thereby reaches the monitored devices and the portal.
Terminal block for power supply
A terminal block accepts the external voltage supply from 9 to 30 V; alternatively, a hollow plug socket is available.
Two 230V relay outputs
Two relay outputs (Channel 1 and Channel 2) for 110/230V AC with up to 16A briefly switch off the power supply to the connected devices when a failure is detected, thus restarting them.
Internal web server and logger
Inside run the web server for configuration and the data logger for up to 200 events.
Mounting
The enclosure can be mounted on a wall or on a DIN rail.
5 + 1 methods for failure detection
A separate detection method can be selected for each of the 12 channels; compared to the Lite variant, the Industrial model adds serial string detection.
- Outgoing PING: The IP WatchDog2 regularly sends PING requests to the monitored device
- Incoming PING: The IP WatchDog2 waits for a PING signal from the monitored device (heartbeat)
- Web page request (web client): Checks whether a defined web page on the external device is reachable
- Web page (web server): Waits for a request from the external device to its own internal web page (heartbeat)
- Expected RS-232 string: Waits for a specific character string on the serial data line (heartbeat)
- Manual reboot: An employee can manually reboot the channel (output)

HWg-PDMS, HWg-Trigger, HWg-SDK
Windows software for data acquisition (HWg-PDMS) and alarming in the event of failed devices (HWg-Trigger). For custom software integration, HW group also provides the HWg-SDK with examples for Borland C++, MS Visual, VB, C#, PHP, Java, and other languages.
Without a portal, the device independently alarms via SNMP trap, via e-mail through an SMTP server, or via SMS and voice call through an HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway on the same network. Additionally, the IP WatchDog2 Industrial can be connected to an SNMP monitoring system or to a SCADA system via Modbus/TCP.
