Functionality and Application Areas
The IP WatchDog2 Industrial monitors the availability of network devices over LAN or serial RS-232 interfaces at user-defined intervals. If a failure is detected, up to two physical devices can be automatically restarted via two powerful relay outputs (230V/16A NO/NC) to quickly restore functionality. Alternatively, the password-protected web interface allows for manual restart, providing maximum control.
The device uses six methods to detect device failures:
- Outgoing PING: Regular PING requests to monitored devices.
- Incoming PING: Waiting for a heartbeat signal from the device.
- Web page request (Web Client): Checking the availability of a specific web page.
- Web server request: Waiting for requests to the device’s internal web page.
- RS-232 string: Detection of a specific string via the serial interface.
- Manual restart: Direct control by a user via the web interface.
These versatile monitoring methods make the IP WatchDog2 Industrial ideal for numerous applications, including:

Technical Features and Integration
The IP WatchDog2 Industrial offers 12 monitoring channels, two of which are physical relay outputs (230V/16A) that can directly restart devices. The remaining channels can control virtual outputs on compatible devices such as Poseidon2 or Damocles2.
Configuration is handled via an integrated web server, enabling intuitive adjustment of monitoring intervals, alarm conditions, and notification options.
Several channels are available for alerting:
- SNMP Trap: For integration into network management systems.
- Email notifications: Via an SMTP server or the SensDesk portal.
- SMS and call: With an external HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway on the same LAN.
An internal data logger stores up to 200 events, which can be exported to Excel using the HWg-PDMS software. The device supports protocols such as SNMP, XML, and HWg-Push, and is compatible with HWg-Trigger software as well as the SensDesk portal.
For developers, the HWg-SDK offers support for programming languages like C++, C#, PHP, Java, and more, facilitating integration with SCADA systems or other third-party software.
