The plug-ready voltage detector for direct socket monitoring
The HW group Power Detector is an accessory that detects the presence of voltage in the range between 110 and 230V AC. It is plugged directly into a socket and signals via a galvanically isolated relay output whether mains voltage is present. The Power Detector can be connected to the digital input (DI) of any HW group device.
The Power Detector can, for example, be connected to a digital input of a Poseidon2 3266 or Damocles2 MINI to monitor the charging voltage at the input of a UPS. The relay output is designed as a normally open (NO) contact: The "closed" state signals the presence of 110–230V voltage. Thanks to interchangeable plug adapters (International, EU, UK, US), the same Power Detector fits into sockets of different countries.
Simple voltage detection directly at the socket
The Power Detector provides a clear signal as soon as mains voltage is present or fails at the monitored socket.
Voltage detection 110–230V AC
Detects the presence of mains voltage in plug standards Type A, Type C and Type G.
Plug-ready design
Plugged directly into the socket without additional wiring to the power source.
Interchangeable plug adapters
Available for international, EU, UK and US sockets – the same detector thus adapts to different countries.
Galvanically isolated relay output
The normally open (NO) output is loadable up to 50V/130mA, with max. 10 Ohm resistance in the closed state.
Terminal block connection
The relay output is connected to the monitoring device via a 2-pole terminal block with any two-core cable.
Universally compatible
Can be connected to any digital input (DI) of the Poseidon2, Damocles2, STE2, I/O Controller and HWg-Ares product families.
How the Power Detector is constructed
The compact plastic housing (main body approx. 42 x 58 x 33 mm, total weight approx. 80g) has protection class IP23 and is designed for industrial, SoHo and IT environments with operating temperatures from -30°C to +60°C (0–100% RH).
Plastic housing with power plug
The main body of the Power Detector carries the power plug on the rear, with which the device is plugged directly into the socket.
Interchangeable plug adapter
The actual plug head (EU, UK, US or international set) can be removed from the main housing and replaced with the respective national standard.
2-pole terminal block
On the side of the housing there is a green screw terminal block, via which the galvanically isolated relay output is connected to the digital input of an HWg device with any two-core cable.
Internal voltage detection
Inside the housing, the electronics detect the presence of mains voltage and switch the relay output accordingly; the Power Detector itself draws its power directly from the monitored socket (approx. 3 mA consumption).
Compatible with the entire HWg device portfolio
The Power Detector can be connected to the digital input of any HWg device.
- Poseidon2 3266, 3268, 3468, 4002
- Damocles2 1208, MINI, 2404
- STE2
- I/O Controller
- HWg-Ares
Installation in a few steps
The Power Detector is plugged into the socket to be monitored and connected to the monitoring device via a two-core cable.
- Attach the appropriate plug adapter (EU, UK, US or International) to the housing, if not already mounted
- Plug the Power Detector into the socket to be monitored
- Connect a two-core cable to the terminal block of the Power Detector
- Connect the other cable end to a digital input (DI) of the monitoring device (e.g. Poseidon2 or Damocles2)
- In the device's web interface, name the digital input and set the desired alarm logic (e.g. alarm on power failure)
Why the Power Detector is the right choice
Plug-ready
No additional wiring to the power source required.
Internationally usable
Interchangeable plug adapters for EU, UK, US and more.
Galvanically isolated
Safe signal transmission to the monitoring device.
Universally compatible
Can be connected to any HWg device with digital input.
Compact design
Unobtrusive size for use at any socket.
24 months warranty
According to the manufacturer with 24 months warranty from date of purchase.
Practical application examples
- Monitoring the charging voltage at the input of a UPS
- Detection of power failures at individual sockets
- Industrial applications and manufacturing environments
- Data center environmental and access control systems
- Base transceiver stations (BTS) and telecommunications sites
Practical example: A Power Detector is connected to the mains socket that supplies a UPS with charging voltage. If the mains voltage fails, the relay output of the Power Detector opens, which is immediately detected via a digital input of a Poseidon2 3266. The Poseidon2 device then automatically sends an email or SNMP trap notification, so that the technical team is promptly informed about the power failure – even before the UPS battery runs out.
Frequently asked questions
What is the HW group Power Detector and what is it used for?
The Power Detector is a plug-ready accessory that detects the presence of 110–230V mains voltage and reports it to an HWg monitoring device via a galvanically isolated relay output. It is used to detect power failures at individual sockets, for example at the input of a UPS.
Are there different variants or options?
No, there is no separate options field. The Power Detector is basically equipped with interchangeable plug adapters (International, EU, UK, US), so that the same detector can be adapted to sockets of different countries.
How is the Power Detector connected?
The Power Detector is plugged directly into the socket to be monitored. Its galvanically isolated relay output is connected to the digital input (DI) of an HWg device via a terminal block with any two-core cable.
Which devices is the Power Detector compatible with?
The Power Detector can be connected to the digital input of any HWg device, such as Poseidon2 (3266, 3268, 3468, 4002), Damocles2 (1208, MINI, 2404), STE2, I/O Controller and HWg-Ares.
What load can the relay output switch?
The normally open (NO) output is loadable up to 50V and 130mA, with a resistance of max. 10 Ohm in the closed state. The "closed" state signals the presence of 110–230V voltage.
Does the Power Detector require its own power supply?
No. The Power Detector draws its own power supply directly from the monitored socket and requires only approx. 3 mA. A separate power source is not required.
